Types of hearing loss

There are four types of hearing loss, depending on where the problem occurs. If you have a conductive hearing loss, sound cannot be conducted to the cochlea. If you have a sensorineural hearing loss, the hair cells of the cochlea are (partly) damaged or missing. They cannot transmit electrical signals to the hearing nerve properly. A combined hearing loss is a combination of both a conductive and a sensorineural hearing loss. People with a neural hearing loss have a damaged or missing hearing nerve. Sound can no longer be sent on to the brain. There are different types of hearing implants for different types of hearing loss. Hearing implants may be an ideal solution for some types of hearing loss.
